Fly Fishing And Float Fishing Trips
If you have the fishing equipment and skills, we can drop you off at fishing sites along the Housatonic which have the best prospects. Our good friend Greg Lethbridge (also an interior firefighter with my department) runs a weekend fishing expedition company – his charges are separate from ours – we have had terrific feedback from his clients – He uses a kevlar dory to run stretches of the river. Greg Lethbridge Guide Services, LLC 860-601-1731. Your humble tour guide Jim is not a fly fisherman. But he watches where they fish and knows the best spots they report.
Mild moving water? Lakes? We can pick the spot for you, as far off the beaten path as you want to be. We have two standard sit-in kayaks available, and one two-person sit-on kayak at no charge. You can kayak around a local lake – see bald eagles in their nests, paddle up quiet streams and see the wildlife surrounding you. We do not guide on any swift water kayaking expeditions, but we can recommend guides for you.
Cross Country Skiing – Downhill Skiing
We can provide instruction in cross-country skiing, and suggest great places to ski. For downhill skiers, Mohawk Mountain is twenty minutes from the Wingdale Station, and Butternut (near Great Barrington) is about an hour away. They both offer training.
We can give you some suggestions on how to spend the wonderful and memorable private weekend you want! We can suggest romantic lodging that matches your budget. Perhaps send you off on a quiet picnic by a stream or lake or meadow – A bottle of wine, cheese and baguette, fried chicken, packed for your lunch – take it on the trail with you or to your private and secluded location next to a waterfall – it’s all up to you- we’ll drop you off as close as we can and point you into the location.
Tell us your interests! We will make the photo opportunity happen. Fall colors? We can take you to the most colorful places you can imagine. Wildlife? We can set you up in the best possible locations to see wildlife, or take you to see rescued bald eagles, owls, hawks, a raven, or herd animals held in wildlife centers. Mountaintop vistas – Waterfalls – Covered Bridges – Colonial estates – Farms – We’ll give your creativity a workout.
Soak Under The Waterfalls Tour
We can take you to the most secret of waterfalls for your enjoyment, then fade away and leave you alone until you return to civilization.
Wine Country Tours and Wine Tasting
There are several vineyards and wine tasting destinations here. Plus, you aren’t driving, so feel free to exercise your taste buds.
Covered Bridge Tour
Two of the loveliest covered bridges in New England are here. One is at Bulls Bridge, the other is at West Cornwall. Both of them span the Housatonic River. They are about twenty minutes apart by car. Both are near the Appalachian Trail. We will be proud to show them to you. Budget about two hours for both of them, including wandering around West Cornwall and viewing the falls at Bulls Bridge.
Pumpkin Patches and Corn Mazes
Pick out your pumpkin and wandering around the farm or the corn maze, and run around the growing Christmas trees. We saw a huge bobcat there last week. We recommend the Angevine Farm in Warren.
Outlying Sights And Tours
It’s your time – we work for you. If there is a place you want to see that is not quite in northwest Connecticut – we will take you there from here, or recommend the best train to get there.
